UFOs
I’m not sure when my fascination with UFOs came about. It was probably somewhere between my brother reading scary ghost stories to me and the history channel showing project blue book documentaries. The supernatural has been a part of my life on the daily ever since. From some of the books I read, to the podcast I listen to, and even my first tattoo that featured a spot lighted UFO off in the distance.
How is it though that so many people come to the same comforting spot that is the spooky unknown.
My best guess is that it reminds us of childhood. A time when everything was new and discovery was everywhere. Each insect, each clump of dirt, each new hill that blocked our view of the grass beyond was something to see and for our minds to absorb as it worked to fit together the puzzle that was our world.
As we get older, the puzzle is more complete. There are fewer hills around obscuring what we wish to see. Less to wonder about and desire to learn.
But the world of the unknown, that spooky one, is the one that draws us near it. That screams to us as a mystery to be solved. That bit, that takes you back. To where you were first learning. When you were young, dreaming, and scared of the dark.
That’s why I love UFOs. Because they are the thing that reminds me that at the heart of it all. I’m a kid, still learning, trying to make my way through it. Not knowing what is really above me.
